This week I was learning about the frog cycle. I learnt about eggs called frogspawn, how the frogspawn turns into tadpoles and tadpoles get legs and a tail. Then they get their front legs, then they get onto the land, then it makes the adult frog, and it all happens all over again and again and again. We did an explanatory sentence on the frog cycle and paragraph after paragraph. It was tricky but I had a great time.
Royden's Frog Cycle
A frog is a tailless amphibian with a short squat body, moist smooth skin, and very long hind legs for leaping. Frogs live on land and in water like ponds. Frogs can be green some frogs can be brown. Frogs lay eggs, lots of eggs and sooner or later those eggs change into frogs.
Frogs start their live in water. They lay hundreds of eggs could frogspawn
That float on top of the water. Some of them are eaten by fish. The eggs start to change shape and grow. It starts to have a tail and a head. After about 10 days, the eggs have grown into tadpoles and wriggle wriggle out. They have grown gills.
Gills help the tadpoles breathe oxygen under water. The gills are on the tadpoles neck. The gills look like feathers on the tadpoles neck. Next they start to grow.
Small tadpoles eat water plants. Bigger tadpoles eat small water animals. They eat and eat and start to grow their hind legs. Then they grow lungs to breathe now they have to go up to the surface to breathe again.
Next they grow their front legs then they use their hind legs for swimming. Their back legs are like duck feet that are webbed. It helps them swim better. The young growing frogs have still got a tail to help them swim.
Just after that the tail starts to shenk. The tadpole is now a froglet and he jumps everywhere. A froglet size is as small as a 10 cent coin. A froglet uses his tongue to catch flies and insects. The froglet grows into an adult frog. When a frog is 3 years old it lays frogspawn and the frog cycle starts all over again.
